Piano Lessons
Ages 5 - Adult
Multi-Sensory Teaching Style
I teach beginner through intermediate piano students. I use a multi-sensory approach to help my students focus not only on the notes, but the rhythms, the dynamics...playing, seeing and feeling each piece of music as a whole. As a teacher, I hope to inspire my students to learn the piece we are studying, but also to FEEL the music, how it was written.
Beginning Students
For beginners, I teach from a series of lesson, recital and theory books (different books based on age), and move into higher levels when ready. I also incorporate scales. When the student is ready, I introduce various types of music so my students can learn about a variety of styles ranging from classical to jazz, contemporary, religious, and Broadway.
Intermediate Students
For students who have already had years of lessons, I meet them where they are and enhance their piano skills to the best of my abilities. We begin with the music they already have, and later incorporate new pieces. As with the beginners, I will also encourage learning various styles of music.
Theory, Composition and Ear Training
For all students, I focus a lot on music theory - learning scales, keys, chords, etc. For any student, I can also work on composition, ear training, and playing by ear. I believe this is an intricate and very important piece of the whole puzzle. Teaching a student to use their ears to find and create melodies is a wonderful way to enhance a student's overall musical ability.
Recitals and Performance
Every 9 months, there will be a recital that each student is encouraged to participate in to show off newly learned music and skills. Each student will be asked to play 2 songs of choice. I also encourage participation in local talent shows or musical venues where their skills can be showcased. I am always willing to help students find avenues where they can practice playing the piano in front of an audience if they desire to do so.
